Macchiavelli a mediaeval Italian said exactly the same thing. In fact, he wrote a book about how to govern by fear. On the other hand, historical facts prove that those who are rule are eventually ousted, sometimes in the most horrible ways, even if they momentarily think that they are invincible. The ancient Greek word “hubris” means that the arrogant, self-centered leaders sure about their invincibility always – repeat: always – fall hard. Think of the Soviet Union which everyone felt was truly invincible. Now our “leaders” are making exactly the same mistakes as they did. Those who lived under that rule like myself, will soon be dead,so there will be no one to remember.Humanity never learns.
